Children’s Dentistry of Charlottesville has been a committed provider for Medicaid from day one.

Every child is special and deserves to be shown dignity, respect, and compassion. Most importantly, every child deserves a healthy smile.

We could not be more proud to be one of the few dental practices that accepts Medicaid in the Charlottesville community. Being a resource for the underprivileged and underserved is core to our mission. Having an opportunity to make a positive difference in the community is what keeps us coming to the office every single day.

Medicaid Dentist for Kids

Your child’s dental care and the quality of care they receive isn’t determined by the type of insurance they have or how you pay for their treatment.

The care given to patients with Medicaid is always the same as the care provided to any other patient. Unlike a lot of practices, we accept Medicaid patients from age 6 months up to age 21 (and beyond if there are Special Healthcare Needs to consider). If you have questions regarding your dental coverage under Medicaid, please contact us today so that we can help you get the coverage your child needs and deserves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance other than Medicaid?

We do! In addition to Medicaid we accept all sorts of insurance plans, including:

  • Metlife
  • Guardian
  • United Concordia
  • Delta Dental
  • Cigna

My child has special needs and has trouble at the dentist. Will You still work with him?

Of course! Generally, we are still able to perform basic dental exams for children with Special Needs. All of our dentists have experience working with children with special needs, including Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and dental anxiety.

We are committed to helping your child relax and get the care they need. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s needs, please ask.

How often does my child need a dental exam?

For most children, we recommend two dental exams every year. Occasionally, more frequent exams may be needed for more extensive dental treatment for your child.

Is there anything to look out for between dental exams?

While 2 dental exams every year should catch most issues, you should be on the lookout for some things in-between appointments. These include….

  • Temperature sensitivity in the teeth
  • Gums that are swollen or bleeding
  • Damage to fillings, crowns, or other dental restorations
  • Mouth pain, including teeth, tongue, or jaw pain
  • Difficulty while chewing or swallowing
  • Continuous bad breath even with brushing and flossing

If any of these are popping up in your child, you should contact us to see if you should schedule an additional exam.
