Greetings, friends! As many of you know, February is National Children’s Dental Health Awareness Month.

National Children’s Dental Health Awareness programs have grown from a one-day event in Cleveland, Ohio to a month-long, nationwide program that has been observed since 1981.

This year, our team will be hosting an open house to celebrate on February 23, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at our office. Read on to learn more.

I believe that the purpose of having an entire month for awareness for dental health is to help the public understand that their oral health is directly related to their overall health. Dental cavities are completely avoidable if you take the necessary steps, such as:

  • Regular brushing and flossing
  • Avoiding sticky sweet snacks and sugary drinks
  • Regular dental visits

Early childhood caries, or the presence of one or more decayed, missing, or filled teeth, is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in children under the age of four. Early childhood caries is also more prevalent in minority populations and people that are in a lower socioeconomic class. What this means to me is the dental profession and our society both have a lot of work to do to correct these problems.

How Children’s Dentistry of Charlottesville Can Help

At Children’s Dentistry of Charlottesville, we want to be part of the solution and work towards eliminating this discrepancy. That’s why we focus on improving access to care, and work with patients who only have Medicaid coverage or special health care needs.

We aren’t satisfied with the status quo. We believe that cavities are completely preventable, and we’d like to partner with you to help make this belief a reality. It’s a dream right now, but it’s a dream that we have the power to make come true. To this end, every new patient gets a brand new toothbrush with toothpaste and floss, and will continue to with each subsequent cleaning. So we’re hooking you up with half of the toothbrushes you would use in a normal year (if you regularly replace them)!

We’re Hosting an Open House!

This year we are trying to step up our support of National Children’s Dental Health Awareness Month. We’re serious about raising dental health awareness to the local families in our community. To do so, we’re putting our actions where our words are.

We want to celebrate this year’s National Children’s Dental Health Awareness month by hosting a dental health open house! We’ll have dental educational activities, games, refreshments and more. We’re going to prop the doors open and invite you into our home away from home.

The Open House will be on February 23, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring your family, neighbors, old friends, come make some new friends. We want to partner with you to help eliminate early childhood caries in our town. We can do this together.

Stop by at our Charlottesville location at 1470 Pantops Mountain Pl #1, or give us a call at (434) 817-1817 with any questions.

Come meet us and see why we can’t stop smilin’!
